It was refreshing to see such impeccable comedic timing between Tina Fey and Steve Carrell in Date Night after the disastrous Hot Tub Time Machine. This action-packed romantic comedy tells the story of a "boring married couple from New Jersey" and their adventures caused by mistaken identity on their date night.
Steve Carrell's leading ladies in his prior movies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Evan Almighty, Dan in Real Life, and Get Smart have been disappointing because they did not really seem to have good on-screen chemistry with him. However, Tina Fey had great on-screen chemistry with him. I was a little skeptical about the pairing of these two comedic geniuses because I was afraid that putting two comedians together in a romantic comedy might turn out to be disastrous. But the casting director was right on the mark by choosing them as the leading pair for this movie. I really hope they both do more movies together because Steve Carrell has finally met his perfect on-screen match!
Kudos to Shawn Levy for directing such an excellent movie and to Josh Klausner for writing such a funny and interesting script. I highly recommend this movie. Don't wait till it comes out on DVD, spend $11, and go watch it NOW! And be ready to laugh your pants off!
